Volunteer Interpreters Needed
---------------------
WAHA works with many clients who do not speak English, and we need volunteer interpreters for insurance screening and/or medical appointments.  This is a great opportunity to network in the medical community and help all members of our community get access to health care.

The Whatcom Alliance for Healthcare Access is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting access to healthcare services for all members of our community. Composed of a wide range of partners including leaders from the nonprofit, business and governmental sectors, as well as many local health care organizations, we are dedicated to solving community healthcare problems.

WAHA's Mission is to:

Connect community members to healthcare services, promote system improvements and foster public engagement to develop sound healthcare policies.

In order to fulfill its Mission, WAHA is focused on the following:

  • Providing client services for people wanting information and assistance about health insurance and accessing healthcare in Whatcom County.

  • Providing information for decision makers and the community about healthcare policies.

  • Convening and educating community members to create dialog and educational forums addressing healthcare access issues.

New Insurance Options

WAHA has learned of two new options for those needing health insurance coverage:

The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan, created by the Affordable Care Act, provides coverage to those with pre-existing conditions who have been uninsured for at least six months.

Washington Health Program is a non-subsidized version of the state’s popular Basic Health program and is administered by the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA).

NW Law Advocates has prepared a helpful fact sheet about the Washington Health Program.
